Bangor, Maine –

Sandollar Spa and Pool recently purchased a building in downtown Bangor, with plans to relocate its retail operations from Brewer. However, upon discussions with fellow Bangor business owners and witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by the homeless population in the area, Sandollar has recognized the need for action and compassion.

The company’s decision to purchase the downtown building was initially met with skepticism, as many questioned the feasibility of operating in an area affected by homelessness-related concerns. In the weeks following the acquisition, Sandollar representatives observed the struggles faced by community members and business owners and felt compelled to make a difference.

In an effort to better understand the issue and how they could contribute positively, Sandollar reached out to city representatives and met with Rebecca Kirk, Community Services Manager, from the City of Bangor. She provided valuable insights into the city’s efforts to address homelessness, dispelling misconceptions and sharing her own moving experiences. The meeting served to enlighten Sandollar about the challenges faced by individuals and the vital role played by outside services and non-profit organizations in providing assistance.

Sandollar acknowledges the complexity of homelessness, recognizing it as a result of multifaceted social issues, including poverty, lack of affordable housing, and mental health challenges. The company has chosen the path of compassion and empathy, understanding the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need.

Sandollar is taking concrete steps to make a difference in the Bangor community. The company is organizing an event centered around the Festival of Lights Parade on December 2. This year’s parade theme, “Create Hope in the World,” aligns perfectly with Sandollar’s current mission.

For the month of November,  Sandollar will collect essential supplies for those in need at their current location in Brewer. They have partnered with the organization Hope for the Homeless but they are also working closely with community members, professionals, volunteers, and non-profit organizations actively engaged in addressing homelessness and recovery.  On December 2nd, Sandollar will be hosting an in-person event at Sandollar’s future location at 193 Broad Street, in Downtown Bangor.  This event will feature informative discussions on the challenges faced by the homeless population and how individuals can contribute.  At the conclusion of the event, Sandollar will be donating a hot tub via raffle! To enter to win you must purchase a raffle ticket using the link above.

Sandollar is inviting community members, especially those who have been affected by homelessness, to join them in this collective effort to bring awareness to the homelessness and mental health crisis in Bangor. The event will provide an opportunity to donate supplies or participate in a raffle to win a hot tub with proceeds benefiting the local Bangor non-profit, Hope for the Homeless.

As part of the event, Sandollar will participate in the Festival of Lights Parade, walking through Downtown Bangor to spread the message of hope and unity. Groups or organizations interested in participating in the Parade and walking with Sandollar can contact Sandollar for details.

Sandollar firmly believes that it is the collective responsibility of the community to address homelessness, and their commitment to creating hope in the world is a testament to their dedication to this cause. The company calls upon the community to stand together and work towards meaningful solutions for those in need.
